Deep Dish Maple Apple Pie
Home made deep dish apple pie with a double crust. This maple-sweetened pie is made with whole-grain flour and oil in the crust. Plus I have a blue ribbon tip for the tastiest flavor and juiciest filling ever!
1 ¾ cups white whole-wheat flour
1 cup all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
2 tablespoons sugar
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup cold unsalted butter, cut into chunks
¼ cup avocado oil or organic canola oil
½ cup to ¾ cup ice water
1 egg yolk
2 teaspooons turbinado sugar
Filling:
3.5 pounds apples, peeled cored and sliced
¾ cup dark pure maple syrup
¼ cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
2 teaspoons corn starch
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
pinch salt
