Dark and spicy gingerbread made with fresh ginger
Ingredients
1½ cups all-purpose flour + more for pan
½ teaspoon baking soda
5 Tablespoons freshly grated ginger*
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground allspice
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon salt
½ cup buttermilk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
8 Tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature + more for pan
1 cup dark brown sugar
½ cup dark molasses
2 large eggs, at room temperature
