Soft baked pretzels are served with a sharp cheddar cheese sauce that can be customized in a number of ways.
Ingredients
Pretzel Bites:
1½ cups lukewarm water
1 packet instant rise yeast (2 and ¼ tsp.)
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon packed light brown sugar
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
3¾ cup – 4¼ cup all-purpose flour, plus additional to coat worktop
½ cup baking soda
1 large egg, beaten
Pretzel salt or coarse sea salt, for sprinkling
Cheese Sauce:
2 cups whole milk
¼ cup unsalted butter
¼ cup flour
2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, grated
salt + pepper to taste
