German Soft Pretzels

Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside! This pretzel recipe is easy to make and – thanks to using baking soda instead of real brine – completely safe.
Ingredients
Dough:
1.5oz (42g) cake yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
4 cups (500g) flour
½ tablespoon salt
1¼ cups (300ml) lukewarm water
Brine:
1.5 quarts (1.4l) water
3.5oz (100g) baking soda
1 tablespoon salt
To Finish:
Your favorite toppings (sea salt, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, cheese… Anything goes!)
