Authentic British scones
Authentic British scones (the recipe was given to my mum when she was in Cornwell!) that will be perfect for your next brunch or afternoon tea. Serve them with clotted cream, jam, lemon curd (or just on their own!) but don’t forget the cup of tea!
350 g cake flour (the kind that comes with yeast in it already)
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
85 g butter, slightly softened and cubed
3 tbsp caster sugar
175 ml milk
1 tbsp vanilla extract
a good squeeze of lemon juice
1 beaten egg to glaze (or use milk for egg-free)
optional garnishing : chopped hazelnuts, chocolate chips, candied fruits, citrus zest, poppy seeds, dried raisins/cranberries, …
